THE FIELD GUIDE

Midnight Reckoning Walkthrough: Lacra’s Final Assault

After Our Rotten Roots, wait one full day and meet Lacra at Westridge Outpost Tower. “It’s time to deal with Brencis” starts the final assault. Save first: departure closes unfinished quests.

Finish Our Rotten Roots and return to Lacra

Midnight Reckoning enters your journal after Our Rotten Roots. Its first objective is to wait one in-game day, or 16 time segments, before speaking to Lacra. Use that interval for any remaining preparation.

When the wait is complete, return to Westridge Outpost Tower. The departure line is “It’s time to deal with Brencis.” If you have not yet finished Our Rotten Roots, follow Lacra’s earlier quests first.

Take The Night of Horrors before the final departure

The Night of Horrors is an optional expedition available after the same wait. Ask “You had some idea to talk through?” to take that trip. It has its own conversations and rewards, including the Relic of St. Tobias on the outdoor trail and Lacra’s romance opportunity.

Complete the expedition before choosing the Brencis departure line if you want those rewards. You can then return to the tower for the assault.

Keep a save before committing to the assault

Save before agreeing to leave the tower. The assault takes you out of free exploration and closes unfinished quests, so this is the save you will need for another ending or for returning to optional tasks.

  • Finish any optional quests, purchases and equipment collection you still want to do.
  • Learn any wanted skill ranks, check your equipped abilities and put healing or blood restoratives in usable quickslots.
  • Check your family’s rescue deadline. Reaching Brencis after their deaths can lead to revenge, but victory will not restore the rescue opportunity.

Enter the ruins beneath Svartrau

After the departure scene, you arrive inside a house in Svartrau. Search the basement for the entrance, then descend toward the temple with Lacra.

  1. Go downstairs, use Focus to find the crack beside the barrels and squeeze through.
  2. Drop through the hole beyond it and follow the cave to the ledge.
  3. Use Clawride to descend the wall and continue along the lower passage.
  4. Defeat the gargoyle miniboss in the first large chamber.
  5. Cross the gap with Shadowstep and climb the stairs. Wait for Lacra to open the wall, then enter the temple.

Clear the temple and let Lacra stop the ritual

Follow the temple corridor into the ritual chamber. The objective names Ambrus’s soldiers; clear the defenders so Lacra can stop the ritual. Earlier Boyar encounters can change who remains to oppose you during the assault.

  1. Fight through the long temple corridor and follow it as it turns right.
  2. Open the metal doors at the end to enter the central chamber.
  3. Defeat the defenders in that room. Lacra stops the ritual after the fight.
  4. Leave through the next set of metal doors and climb the wooden scaffolding and cave platforms toward the castle dungeon.

Cross the dungeon and reach the courtyard

The dungeon replaces the temple soldiers with undead phantoms. Clear the rooms and continue upward through the castle. After the first room’s fight, you can loot a Prison Cells Key from a body to open the cells you passed. The prisoners remain in their cells on this route, so the key is an optional detour.

  1. Clear the first rooms. When the talking corpses stop you in the hallway, finish the exchange and continue.
  2. Defeat the next group of enemies, then use Shadowstep to reach the ledge overhead.
  3. Fight Bakir if he survived your earlier encounters. Otherwise, defeat the undead miniboss occupying this room.
  4. Continue to Lacra’s conversation, then take the western door into the courtyard.
  5. Clear the undead soldiers outside to reach the floating-stone ascent.

The cell-key detour is optional on this route; continue upward after checking the cells.

Climb the floating stones with Shadowstep and Planeshift

Use Shadowstep and Planeshift to climb the stones above the courtyard. Follow them around the corner until you can reach the doorway ledge; the next part of the route is back inside the castle.

If you made a deal with Xanthe, she lets you pass and her Blood Guards are absent from a later room. If you never dealt with her, prepare to fight her when you re-enter the castle.

  1. Follow the floating stones upward and around the corner, then teleport to the ledge with the doorway.
  2. Resolve the Xanthe encounter if she is present, pass through the metal gate and climb the stairs.
  3. Defeat the phantoms and go through the door behind them. Clear the defenders in the next room and take the stairs at the back.
  4. Defeat the final miniboss on this approach, then follow the passage to the throne-room door.

Choose the fight or Brencis’s bargain

The throne-room conversation determines whether you fight alongside Lacra or accept Brencis’s terms. The bargain is available if you reach him within the rescue deadline while your family is still alive. Choose the challenge to continue the battle.

Choose the fight or Brencis’s bargain
Dialogue choiceWhat it commits you to
“Just draw your blade, Brencis.”Fight Brencis with Lacra and continue toward The Patricide ending.
“I accept your offer. I’m sorry, Lacra.”Accept the offered bargain, betray Lacra and take The Turncoat ending instead of this battle.

Defeat Brencis in the throne room and Anachora

Lacra assists in the throne room. Emptying Brencis’s first health bar moves you to Anachora for a second fight alone, so keep enough healing for both parts.

Block ordinary attacks and avoid the ranged strikes

Block his ordinary claw and sword attacks in the throne room. When he jumps away, watch for unblockable ranged attacks and dodge them. Reposition with him so you can see the next attack coming.

Dodge the scream and tentacle attacks in Anachora

In Anachora, Brencis keeps his sword attacks and adds an unblockable scream and tentacle-hand swipe. Dodge sideways out of the scream’s path and evade the large swipe.

At two health checkpoints he performs an unavoidable grab. Boyars you drained earlier may appear as allied phantoms; Brencis can absorb them during these sequences and then use their attacks against you. Watch for Bakir’s ranged birds or an Ambrus phantom closing in for melee attacks.

Deplete the second health bar and finish the concluding conversation to complete Lacra’s victory and earn The Patricide achievement.

Finish the epilogue, then use your earlier save to explore

Continue into the epilogue in Laslea Glen after the ending scenes. Follow the marked conversations and errands, inspect the forest traps when directed, then continue to the cave and the final scenes.

The epilogue ends at the title screen. Load your save from before the tower departure to resume exploration or try another route. Use the ending guide to choose which route to try next.
